Srila B.V. Puri Maharaja Passes Away at 96

At 9pm IST on March 3, 2009, Srila Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Goswami left this world at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where he had been brought for medical treatment. He had just reached his 96th year two months before. Known as Puri Maharaja by devotees and followers, B.V. Puri Goswami was one of the most notable Gaudiya Vaishnava teachers of the 20th century.

Key Supporter of ISKCON Mumbai Passes Away at 88

P.L. Sethi, a building contractor who assisted Srila Prabhupada in acquiring and building ISKCON’s Juhu temple, passed away on February 16 in Mumbai, India. He was 88. Although he was never officially initiated into ISKCON, Sethi always regarded Prabhupada as his guru. From the moment the two first met in 1971, Sethi became a life member and a staunch, loyal follower of Srila Prabhupada.

ISKCON Scientist Sadaputa Dasa Passes Away

ISKCON scientist Sadaputa Dasa, also known as Richard L. Thompson, passed away on September 18th, 2008. His body was found at the bottom of his swimming pool at his home in Alachua, Florida, USA, on Thursday afternoon.

A longtime friend of the family, Mother Nancy, said that he had suffered a heart attack, a condition there has been some history of in his family.

The Self at War
Arjuna is a warrior who feels the call to a more peaceful, non-invasive life. On the verge of a mammoth war he refuses to fight, even though the enemy is an aggressor who must be brought down. Like Arjuna, once we acknowledge the call to a more enlightened life we may also find mundane duties distasteful. Is it possible to attend to such obligations without compromising our higher self? Is it possible to live in the material world without becoming overwhelmed by it?

Srila Prabhupada and the Sixth Commandment
At a recent interreligious conference, I happened to mention that we devotees of Krishna are vegetarian, and in the midst of the discussion, I referred to the Sixth Commandment: "Thou shalt not kill." A prominent Christian scholar, who was part of the discussion, asked what the commandment had to do with vegetarianism.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Passes Away

The Hague, Netherlands – Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the high-profile guru who founded the Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement and popularized Indian spirituality among jet-setting celebrities, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, at his home in the Dutch town of Vlodrop, a TM spokesman told the Associated Press.

Shooting Victim “Lila” Passes Away in Vrindavana

February 5th, 2008 – Ananda-Lila “Lila” Salter passed away in the holy village of Vrindavan at 2:15 this morning. Her family, friends and well-wishers sat at her bedside, while heartfelt chanting of Krishna’s names filled the air. The Australian Hare Krishna devotee, at only 17, had been fighting for her life after 28 year-old Saurav Singh shot her with a pistol early on Saturday morning.
