Join the ISKCON Environmental Initiative (IEI) Green Team this Earth Day—April 22, 2025—for an inspiring online session titled “The Journey to Sustainability: Putting Our Principles Into Action.” This special event will feature a thoughtful conversation with two dynamic Vaishnavis leading the way for a more sustainable future: Ananda Vrindavana Dasi, Temple President of ISKCON of DC (Potomac, Maryland), and Murari Mohini Dasi, Director of Mayapur Clean and Green (Mayapur, India).
Hosted by Anuttama Dasa, IEI’s Green Team Co-Director, this engaging webinar is part of the IEI Seminar Series: “Divinity and the Environment,” and will spotlight practical, faith-based solutions to environmental challenges—both within ISKCON communities and beyond.

In keeping with Earth Day 2025’s theme—“Our Power, Our Planet”—which focuses on tripling clean, renewable energy by 2030, our guests will share their innovative sustainability efforts. For example, Ananda Vrindavana Dasi and her team have installed 225 solar panels on the roofs of the old temple building and the ladies’ ashram in Potomac. This system is projected to generate over 117,000 kWh annually—a powerful step toward energy independence.
Murari Mohini Dasi will share transformative initiatives from Mayapur Clean and Green, which is helping thousands of residents and pilgrims in Mayapur become more conscious stewards of the holy dhama.
Earth Day – Then and Now
Fifty-five years ago, on April 22, 1970, the world united for the first Earth Day. Over 100,000 people gathered in New York City’s Union Square Park for an unforgettable celebration of the planet. Amidst the energy of speeches, music, and activism, Hare Krishna devotees made a memorable appearance, offering a spiritual voice to the global call for environmental respect—a legacy that continues to this day.
Inspired by Srila Prabhupada’s vision, devotees launched the ISKCON Environmental Initiative on Earth Day 2022. It works to promote environmentally sustainable spiritual practices in ISKCON communities around the world by providing education, training, research, organization, networking, and other resources.
