10th May was the day of joy for the Hindu prisoners at Chittagong’s prison-house.  With the help of the Chittagong jail administration and the support of ISKCON Chittagong divisional committee in Bangladesh, devotees of ISKCON Nandankanan Sri Sri Radha Madhav temple & Sri Sri Gour Nitai Ashram organized a wonderful event in Chittagong central jail for the Hindu prisoners.

ISKCON Nandankanan distributed copies of the Bhagavat-gita and prasadam among 300 prisoners as well as the jail’s administrators. Devotees presented a heart-steering kirtan and some of the prisoners burst into crying. Then Pandit Gadadhar Das gave an inspiring lecture to the prisoners to encourage them to practice spiritual activities to rectify their hearts and souls. He pointed out that this material world is also a prison for all of us. He explained how we are bound by the external energy (Maya) of the supreme personality of Godhead, Krishna. How the three modes of nature move us like puppets and how we act according to them. He also explained the easiest way to rectify oneself is to get rid of the bonds of Maya by studying the Bhagavad-gita on a regular basis.

The prisoners joyously danced with the devotees during the concluding kirtan, then enjoyed a sumptuous sanctified vegetarian meal prepared by the dedicated devotees of ISKCON-Nandankanon.

At the end of the program, the inmates expressed their immense gratitude to the visiting Vaishnavas.
