One thousand prisoners, aged between fourteen and twenty-five, attended the ISKCON-organized program at New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on December 18. They were joined by Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Mr. C.R. Garg, Mrs. Garg, and several other senior officers.

The two-hour program began at 3pm with chanting by the devotees of ISKCON Sant Nagar, East of Kailash. Inmates danced and sang along enthusiastically, before sitting down to Vrajendra Nandana Dasa’s speech on the essence of Bhagavad-gita.

Copies of the Bhagavad-gita were then distributed to all educated youth prisoners and officers of the Jail, with several kept for the Jail’s library.

Tihar authorities also welcomed Mrs. Meera Goyal, chairperson of ISKCON Sant Nagar’s Steering Committee, who lead the wives of some important industrialists in distributing books.

Deputy Inspector General of Prisons C.R. Garg concluded the program with a short lecture, in which he he expressed his thanks to ISKCON for arranging “such a nice program” and appreciated the society’s social work.
