GUWAHATI: Various temple authorities in the city have organized competitions on vedic art and 'sloka' recitation for children on the occasion of Krishna Janmasthami on Monday. The international Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) Ulubari has arranged for a series of vedic competitions for school children which include Vedic art and Bhagawat Gita sloka recitation on Sunday.

The participants from various schools in the city recited the 'slokas' quite effortlessly. Priyashi Dhar, a participant's guardian said she wanted her daughter to participate in the competition so that she could get an idea of vedic scriptures. "Children now-a-days are so preoccupied with various activities that they are constantly moving away from their tradition and if such opportunities come, the guardians should encourage their children to participate in them," she said.
