Atlanta’s ISKCON Community Says Goodbye to Slain Member

A slain store clerk was remembered by loved ones on Saturday. Friends and loved ones from the Atlanta Hare Krishna Temple gathered to say goodbye to Harish Roy.

They came together inside a Stone Mountain funeral home Saturday afternoon to celebrate Roy’s life.

Roy had only a couple of family members in Atlanta, but he had many friends from his temple and the community where he worked.

“He was always a great example of being a gentleman, and being very trustworthy, honest and funny,” said a friend of the victim.

A murder suspect is behind bars while police search for his alleged accomplice in the fatal shooting.

The 24 year old was born in Bangladesh, raised in India and came to America in 2005. Sunday, the young clerk was gunned down by two men during a robbery at a Lee Street convenience store in southwest Atlanta.

It’s a tragedy many close friends are still struggling to comprehend. During the ceremony, a childhood friends called for swift justice from police and the district attorney.

Late Saturday morning, a Fulton County judge denied bond for Yusef Cantrell. He’s the 27-year-old Atlanta police charged with murder. He was apologetic after his arrest Friday night.

“I didn’t mean for it to happen like that. I’m sorry,” said Cantrell.

The search continues for alleged accomplice Damien Glover.

The prayers continue for Harish Roy, his wife and the close knit community left to mourn a young man’s senseless murder.

“He’s in a better place. He doesn’t have to worry about all the things around him. He’s in a place where he can not be hurt anymore,” said one mourner.

A fellow temple member called on mourners to honor Roy by treating others as well as he did.

Roy’s family held a memorial service for him Friday in Mayapur, India. His remains were cremated after the service and will eventually be returned to India.
