In a country of 10.5 million people and 40 universities, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Dominican Republic has surely been making its mark, getting the spiritual wisdom and teachings of Krishna-bhakti into the top libraries in the country.

ISKCON Dominican Republic has begun a library book distribution group called: “The Study Circle”, this year. The group is formed of Vidyabhusana Das, Mukunda Madhava Das, Syam Krishna Gopal Das, and Yogavit Das. The core team has been busy in the capital city of Santa Domingo getting the books by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, into university and public libraries. The main books being distributed are Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad Bhagavatam (the ten-volume collection), Coming Back, Beyond Birth and Death, The Science of Self-Realization, The Teachings of Lord Kapila, and cookbooks published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT).

To-date they have distributed to Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC) and the most prestigious university in the country, the The Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) university, as well as the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, to name a few. Along with the gift-wrapped set of books, the recipients also received some pieces of prasadam sweets.

“We are eternally grateful for the mercy and inspiration of our Guru Maharaja,” they said, and for the generous welcome they received from the universities and libraries.

The Study Circle would like to continue their efforts and appreciate the support of the donors from the national and international ISKCON community, “without whom it would not have been possible to carry out the transcendental sankirtan, in support of the libraries of these institutions”, they said.

ISKCON Dominica Republic’s The Study Circle group is working on bringing these books to all the universities (approximately 22) and are designing a website to promote the acquisition of their own temple.

The Study Circle started in 2015 and has been giving classes, spiritual discussions, and book distribution.

Using the page of ISKCON Santo Domingo, The Study Circle gives spiritual classes and discussions via Zoom and Facebook from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Caribbean time from Monday to Friday, and on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
