MANILA, Philippines—If Al Gore really cared about the environment, he would give up meat.
This was the major beef of animal rights advocate People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) about the former US vice president and environmental advocate, during their protest near the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, where Gore delivered a talk Tuesday.
According to Rachel Rigodon, PETA campaigns manager, the protest action was meant to convince Gore to turn vegetarian, stressing that meat eaters contribute more to climate change and global warming than vegetarians.
“We are here to highlight the plight of animals who are suffering in factory farms that cause global warming. We call on him (Gore) to go vegetarian and serve as an example,” Rigodon said.
Factory farms, which breed animals for slaughter and consumption, use more water and create a lot of greenhouse gases, she said. Compared to vegetarians, meat-eaters put enormous pressure on the world’s resources.
