First semester: December 29, 2014 to May 7, 2015.
The Vrindavan Institute for Higher Education (VIHE) course covers the most important sutras of the Sri Harinamamrita Vyakarana, Srila Jiva Gosvami’s complete Sanskrit grammar, a work that contains around 3200 sutras or grammatical rules. Out of these, the course shall cover the 800 most essential ones. By the end of the course students will be able to directly read and understand the Sanskrit verses and commentaries on Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and Shrimad Bhagavatam, along with several other writings of Vaishnava acharyas.
The course is divided into two semesters.
The first semester, which will last for five-months, covers the first two chapters of the Sri Harinamamrita Vyakarana: sandhi and nama prakaranas. The second semester covers the next three chapters: akhyata, karaka andkridanta prakaranas. By the end of the first semester students will begin learning how to read the Sanskrit commentaries of Shrimad Bhagavatam.
The course will be conducted by Vinit Shelar, one of the teachers from the now defunct BBT Sanskrit school founded by Gopiparanadhana Das.
The course is meant for serious Sanskrit students. It requires regular study and practice, including the memorization of the sutras. Prospective candidates need not have any previous knowledge of the Sanskrit language.
Other requirements include chanting 16 rounds of the Hare Krsna Maha-mantra daily, following of the 4 regulative principles, brahminical tendencies, volunteer service, knowledge of English and a recommendation from a senior devotee who knows the candidate well.
