Update (Thursday November 8th): Although power was returned to the New York area for about a week, a powerful Nor’easter struck last night, bringing with it gusting winds, rain, snow, and the threat of flooding.

Icy roads have made it difficult to travel, people have been snowed into their homes, and power has been cut once again for people who had only recently gotten it back after Superstorm Sandy.

This means we once again have a challenge bringing you ISKCON News this week, as our editor Krishna-lila is based in the Manhattan area. Please bear with us, and we will try to find a way to bring you as many articles we can.

In the meantime, please send your best wishes and prayers for Krishna-lila and the other New York devotees to come out of this difficult situation soon.

Thursday November 1st: Don’t worry, all our staff are safe!

But some have been affected by Hurricane Sandy, resulting in reduced content on ISKCON News this week.

The tropical superstorm first hit the Caribbean islands, where it killed 67 people, then moved on to the US on Monday October 29th. There, it slammed into the New Jersey Shore, killing at least 11 people from West Virginia to North Carolina and Connecticut.

New Jersey, Atlantic City, and New York City were among the worst affected. Boardwalks were destroyed, trees and power lines swept over, and streets and subway stations flooded.

Of course, that means power was out too, leaving our ISKCON News staff in the area unable to upload new articles to the website.

You can still read brand new top stories — check out our coverage of the VANDE arts initiative, translating Srila Prabhupada’s books in Georgia, and the ISKCON temple in Santiago, Chile. But most of our Inside ISKCON, World News, and Opinion sections will not be updated until next weekend.

We’ll be back with you next week, when we will let you know how ISKCON temples along the Northeast Coast of the US have fared through the storm.
