This year marked a remarkable milestone for ISKCON St. Louis, which celebrated its 50th installation of Nitai-Gaura Nataraja Deities. The deities were originally installed during the last week of August 1974. Over the decades, ISKCON St. Louis has become a vibrant community, serving as a spiritual home and contributing to the St. Louis community. This event was celebrated from Aug. 31st to Sept. 1st at the temple.

Nitai Gaura-Nataraja Deities.

Renowned honorable guests who were associated with ISKCON St. Louis in its earlier days shared their insights and realization–both in-person and via Zoom around their commitment towards Srila Prabhupada’s legacy while contributing, establishing, and nurturing ISKCON St. Louis over the decades. The guest list included devotees such as Romapada Swami, Vamanadeva Dasa, Mahamuni Dasa, Chitralekha Devi Dasi, Chaturatama Dasa, Anuttama Dasa, Bhima Dasa, Jalathala Devi Dasi, Ishvaripati Dasa, Shankar Pandit Das, Yamuna Jivan Dasa and Namaruchi Dasa and his wife.

Devotees sharing their memories.

As the temple celebrated this significant 50th Installation ceremony, many guest devotees shared their personal stories, highlighting how ISKCON St. Louis has transformed their lives. From spiritual growth to lifelong friendships, the temple has been a cornerstone for many, providing support and a sense of belonging. The key reflection came from Vamanadeva Dasa, who shared his experience and struggle in establishing and raising ISKCON St. Louis in its early days when there was no temple. Vamanadeva Dasa’s talk showed a true commitment towards Srila Prabhupada and his teachings, which was reflected during the occasion. He presented copies of letters and other mail communication that he had with Srila Prabhupada, seeking his guidance and direction while establishing ISKCON St. Louis. Reflections from the other guest devotees were equally empowering. They made us aware of how they carry forward Srila Prabhupada’s legacy through dedication, commitment, and love. The special instructions received from Romapada Swami during the occasion to digitize the ISKCON St. Louis legacy and the focused approach towards Srimad Bhagavatam distribution have set the next milestone for the temple.

Gurukul students offered traditional Indian music, dance performances, and shows related to Lord Krishna’s pastime, showcasing the rich heritage of Vedic culture. All the devotees performed harinam sankirtan in the St. Louis downtown area over the Delmar loop streets, thereby attracting many people to the melodious harinam and the dance procession. A grand prasadam distribution allowed everyone to partake in the sacred offerings, fostering a sense of unity and celebration.

As ISKCON St. Louis enters its next chapter, the vision remains clear: to continue spreading love, devotion, and the teachings of Krishna. Plans for future outreach, youth programs, and community engagement are already in motion, ensuring that the temple remains a vital part of the spiritual landscape for years. The 50th anniversary of ISKCON St. Louis is a celebration of the past and a commitment to the future. With gratitude for the journey thus far and enthusiasm for what lies ahead, devotees are excited to continue sharing the profound teachings of Krishna consciousness with the world. May this milestone inspire further growth, love, and unity within the community and beyond.
