The Hare Krishna Movement: Forty Years of Chant and Change, is a groundbreaking book of essays by leading ISKCON devotees as well as religious scholars. It examines the changes and developments which have shaped ISKCON in the past 40 years, covering a wide range of issues and themes.

The book, edited and with an introduction by Graham Dwyer and Richard J. Cole (Radha Mohan dasa), tracks ISKCON’s history, membership patterns, recruitment strategies, pedagogical and social factors, the importance of ritual and dreams in the lives of devotees, and even the movement’s evolving self-perception.

Authors featured in the compilation include Satyaraja Dasa (Steven J Rosen), with a chapter entitled “1965 was a Very Good Year and 2005 is Better Still," and Ravindra Svarupa Dasa (William H Deadwyler), writing on “Bringing the Lord’s Song to a Strange Land: Srila Prabhupada’s Strategy of ‘Cultural Conquest.’"

Other authors include Rasamandala Das (Ross Andrews), Krishna Dharma dasa (Kenneth Anderson), Anna S. King, Professor Thomas Hopkins, and the editors.

Krishna Ksetra das, a research fellow at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies called it "an essential review and timely update on the growing and maturing phenomenon of worldwide Krishna-devotionalism."

E. Burke Rochford, Jr., a professor of sociology and religion at Middlebury College, author of Hare Krishna Transformed, and a longtime ISKCON researcher says, "The book reveals a whole new intellectual landscape and puts a refreshing new perspective on our understanding the Hare Krishna phenomenon."
