Every year in temples around the world, ISKCON members arrange replicas of the sacred Govardhana Hill to celebrate the Govardhana Puja festival. The hill commemorates Sri Krishna’s pastime of lifting the mountain with his finger to shelter the residents of Vrindavana from a great deluge sent by Indra, the rain god.

The hills, made out of various types of edible sweets, are not only a feast for the tongue but a veritable feast for the eyes. The festive spirit reaches a pinnacle when devotees chant the Hare Krishna maha-mantra as they dance around the centerpiece.

All of this, of course, makes for some visually compelling photo opportunities and intermittent bursts of brilliant camera flash are practically a contemporary addition to this traditional celebration.

But where do all of those pictures go?
