Happy Earth Day! – Award-Winning Film About the Yamuna River Streams for Free for 10 Days
By ISKCON News Staff   |  Apr 22, 2020

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Fifty years ago Earth Day gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet.

Today, Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day by watching ‘The Stolen River’ an educational film about the plight to preserve and restore the holy river Yamuna.

The film is the story of six young people in rural India who set out on a journey to find out who is poisoning their sacred river Yamuna, causing people and animals to fall sick and die en masse in their village and surrounding areas. By the time they arrive at the foothills of the Himalayas, a shocking reality unfolds in front of them: their river has been “stolen” and replaced by an open flow of sewage, causing a major ecological disaster affecting tens of millions — to which, unknowingly, the whole world contributes. Can they save the river, people’s lives and their holy land, the very heart of the ancient Indian culture?

The documentary was produced by Karuna Productions and directed by Krisztina Danka, Ph.D. (Krishna Lila Dasi). It has been screened in various film festivals around the globe and won several prestigious awards such as The Best Film on Nature at the Kolkata International Film Festival, the Independent Short Award and Impact Docs Award in Hollywood, California, and the Best in Show Award at the Cinema Verde International Environmental Film & Arts Festival in Florida.

Between April 22 and 30th, the film is available for free streaming in six languages (English, Spanish, Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese and Russian) on Vimeo-on-Demand.
