The Institute of Science and Spirituality (ISS)- the Indian Knowledge Systems Centre of ISKCON Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Central Sanskrit University (CSU) Delhi are organizing a two-day international conference on “Philosophy of Vaiṣṇava Vedānta: Culture, Legacy and Traditions” to be held August 26-27th, 2023.
Vaiṣṇava Vedānta is the largest Hindu philosophical school, known for its devotion to Viṣṇu or Kṛṣṇa, and as such, was a key to the spread of the Bhakti movement in the Indian subcontinent. It has four main sub-schools and several sub-branches. The Viśiṣṭādvaita school of Rāmānuja, the Dvaita school (Tattvavāda) of Madhvācārya, the Dvaitādvaita school of Nimbārkācārya, the Puṣtimārga of Vallabhācārya and Acintya-Bhedābheda philosophy of Caitanya Vaiṣnava Vedānta are some of the prominent ones.
All these traditions of Vaiṣṇava Vedānta are still living Indian knowledge systems since ancient times. The primary texts in Vaishnava Vedānta include the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Pāncarātra (Āgama) texts, Nālayira Divya Prabhandham, and the Bhāgavata Purāṇa. Various matters related to the literature, philosophy, history, and practices in various sampradāyas of Vaiṣṇava Vedānta and related subjects will be discussed at this conference.
“We expect more than 300 students, eminent scholars, and Acharyas from various Vaishnava sampradayas to participate in this two-day event,” said Jyotisvara Dasa, one of the organizers, “This is going to be a historic event on Vaishnava Vedanta and will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru University, one of the foremost universities in India.” Registration is free, and you can participate online or in person.
