Destructive and deadly landslides and widespread flooding from torrential rains have killed hundreds and left thousands homeless in southern India’s Kerala state. ISKCON Trivandrum immediately began taking action to supply both essentials items and packed prasadam to those affected by the devastations.

Jagat Sakshi Dasa from ISKCON Trivandrum released the following statement on August 7, 2024:
“As you are aware, the current situation in Wayanad [Kerala, India] is dire. Approximately 4,000 houses have been washed away, leaving over 10,000 people homeless. Many have taken shelter in schools, camps, and neighboring areas.

As ISKCON is always at the forefront of helping people in crisis, we have taken similar measures to support Wayanad. For the past few days, we have been supplying essential items such as gumboots, groceries, packed food, and prasadam lunch packets, reaching thousands of people.

More than 20 volunteers are working day and night to meet the needs. We plan to continue our efforts and seek your support in this noble mission. Our sole aim is to distribute Bhagavan’s prasadam lunch packets to all, which will bring them peace and purify their souls. We kindly request your generous support to help us continue this vital work.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the area on August 10th. Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked the central government to declare this a national disaster.
