Moscow, June 4, Interfax – Public protest against building a religious construction for the Moscow Society for Krishna Consciousness was held in the Molzhaninovo District of Moscow.
Residents of neighboring districts came out to demonstrate their protest with slogans “Sects destroy families,” “Say “no” to Krishna center!” “Protect Orthodoxy!” The initiative group had collected signatures for abolishing Moscow government’s resolution to allot land to Krishna followers, the Moskovsky Komsomolets daily has reported on Wednesday.
Among the picketers were pensioners, young people and representatives of clergy. The participants unanimously stated that they considered Krishna followers a dangerous totalitarian sect.
As Interfax-Religion has reported earlier, the Moscow Krishna community intended to build a prayer house and a complex in the Vereskino village, which was to include a center of social service, an administrative building, a museum of Indian history, a center of the Vedic culture and an art school. The Moscow government instructed to work out documents on building a religious construction for the Moscow Society for Krishna Consciousness in the Molzhaninovo District on April 2007.
