Senior Prabhupada disciple and ISKCON guru Subhag Swami Maharaja has been discharged from hospital after receiving surgery for a blood clot in his brain.

While visiting the Denpasar ISKCON temple in Bali, Indonesia, Maharaja said he was experiencing some pain and was immediately brought to see a doctor. Although initial reports claimed that he had contracted a brain hemorrhage, like his Godbrother Jayapataka Swami, ISKCON News can now confirm that the CT scan revealed only a blood clot.

Hearing the news, devotees in Subhag Swami’s homebase of Mayapur, India made offerings to Nrsimhadeva for his recovery, as devotees around the world also joined in the prayer.

Their petition was answered. Doctors operated on Maharaja at the local Surya Husadha hospital in Denpasar and successfully removed the clot, stating soon afterwards that he was out of danger.

On November 21, Subhag Swami’s Godbrother Kavichandra Swami reported that Maharaja was out of the Intensive Care Unit, where doctors had been caring for him after surgery. He was cheerful and walking and eating normally, a marked improvement from days before when he was not able to even lift his spoon.

Reports say he was to be discharged from hospital on November 26th, although this date has not been confirmed.

He is now resting, as devotees around the world continue to pray for his speedy and full recovery.

Born in Kolkata, Subhag Swami has been deeply dedicated to Srila Prabhupada’s mission since joining ISKCON in 1971. Holding a degree from the University of Calcutta, he has translated many of Srila Prabhupada’s books from English to Bengali. He has also translated Lochana Dasa Thakura’s Chaitanya Mangala from Bengali to English and Kavi Karnapura’s Ananda Vrindavan Campu from Sanskrit to English.

Although his health has been ill in recent years, and he is approaching seventy, Subhag Swami continues to vigorously spread Krishna consciousness in many countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the UK.
