New Delhi (PTI): Two police officers were injured when a group of people, protesting after discovery of a cow carcasses in their village, pelted stones on police personnel in south Delhi on Saturday.

Residents of Dera village in Mehrauli informed police around 6.30 AM that their cows were found slaughtered in the nearby jungle and claimed that their remains were thrown in the village.

Police immediately rushed to the spot where around 60 villagers had gathered. In a bid to pacify the crowd, a senior police officer claimed, the policemen told them that they were not cow carcasses but this further angered the villagers who pelted stones, injuring Assistant Police Commisioner Bhisham Singh and Station House Officer of Mehrauli Rajender Bhakshi.

Police used baton to disperse the crowd while Singh and Bhakshi were taken to a nearby hospital and shifted to another later.

A case under IPC Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) against unidentified people was lodged and many have been detained.
