On 13 September 2008, devotees from ISKCON center in Ludhiana paid a visit to Central Jail where young men in the age group 18-25 years are imprisoned.

This was not the first time that inmates of Central Jail got a chance to free their souls despite being under arrest for various crimes. Devotees regularly visit the Central Jail to engage the prisoners in various devotional activities including meditation through chanting the names of Lord.

The inmates were surcharged to have the presence of Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra in Their midst. They expressed their boundless joy by chanting and dancing in kirtan to the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra.

The devotees from ISKCON Ludhiana further enlightened them with a discourse on Bhagavata-gita explaining the fundamental purpose of life, nature of material and spiritual world and knowledge about the Supreme Lord Krishna. The inmates further absorbed their mind and senses on the Lord by participating in the arati and thereafter partaking prasadam.

The Prison Preaching Program organized by ISKCON Ludhiana has made a profound impact on prisoners who are otherwise caught in the world of sinister crimes and monotonous jail trails and routine.

It is not only the inmates but the prison program has also left the Superintendent of Central Jail smiling and requesting for more. He is encouraged by the steady change in the behavior of prisoners and requested the devotees to visit the jail at least once a week which shall hopefully motivate the inmates to change their criminal outlook.
