Sri Sri Kisore Kisori Mandir will host grahasthas who are currently homeschooling their children, or considering it as an option for the future, for a first of it’s kind “Krishna Homeschool Convention” to be held on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.
Homeschooling pioneer and author of “Homeschooling Krishna’s Children”, and “Srimad Bhagavatam: A Comprehensive Guide for Young Readers”, Aruddha devi dasi will be opening the convention with a “Homeschooling Basics” workshop. For the first time in a decade, she will present her seminar with both her accomplished sons, Radhika Raman das and Gopal Hari das, whom she homeschooled. Devotee homeschoolers from the states of California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and Illinois, among others, will share their perspectives and experiences with homeschooling.
Topics to be discussed will include: how to get started, social challenges, tapping into local resources, homeschooling teenagers, successful transition to college, the role of the father, and many more!
There will be break-out sessions to discuss challenges in homeschooling, as well as how to establish systems of support and coops within the Hare Krishna movement.
Gopal Hari das, the Temple President of the Indianapolis yatra, will present a more generic parenting session on the topic, “How Smart is Smart: The Perils of Smart Technology”, discussing the impact of media on children. Atulya dasi, a working mother who homeschools her two daughters in Boston, will lead a session entitled “Yeah, but…I work!”, addressing the challenges of working parents in finding alternative educational models for their children. Varsana dasi, who is a certified Waldorf teacher, will speak about “Teaching to the Head, Heart, and Hands: A Waldorf Approach to Homeschooling.” Anand Vrndavan dasi, from the ISKCON Silicon Valley, and the founder of Lil’ Krishna Kidz and Navadvip Learning Center, will share her homeschooling journey.
